What I learned...

From Mykaella's blog I learned that the immigrants that came from Japan were mostly men and when they got to the US they started farming and doing hard labor jobs and were treated very poorly. Some immigrated to the mainland of the US and the others immigrated to Hawaii because they could not afford to get to the mainland. I also learned how the japanese were treated while there was war between US and Japan, they could not go anywhere because they were always mistreated and they were put into custody as enemy aliens. I liked this blog because it shows everything that the japanese went through to get to the United States.
From Stephanie Rivera's blog I learned that one of the groups that mostly migrated to the US were the italians. They migrated for many years and mor and more came every year. The italians came just looking for a better life. Once the italians were here in the United States they had to take low class paying jobs. I also learned that the Italians worked very hard and they went up from classes, they went from lower class to middle class and kept growing. I liked this blog because she explained everything very good and I wanted to hear some history from where my ancestors came from.
In Arshad's blog I learned many more things about the Irish immigrants. I kept learning on how bad it was for the Irish to come over here. He was born in Puerto Rico and then he moved right away to Palestine. I liked his blog because he kind of immigrated to a lot of different places and he learned many things from those places. He had a hard time immigrating especially in the United States when 911 happened because everyone thought that he was a terrorist.
What I learned in Carlo's blog is that his family all originated from Spain and my dad's part of the family also was from Spain, so we have things in common. I also liked how his grandpa was called Pepin, that's a funny name. His family worked very hard to get to the United States and if they can get here with hard work everyone should too. In his blog I also learned that once they got over here they worked very hard and made their own businesses in Hatillo.

My Family Tree

Well my family tree extends to three different places in Europe: England, Spain, and Italy. My great great great grandfather was born in Italy according to my grandfather and my great great great grandmother was born in Spain. She moved to Italy so she could study and sshe met my great great great grandfather. They got married and had two children. My great great grandfather's name is Angel Luis Fraticelli and it is a tradicion that he created that the first son that is born in a family has to have that exact name. Right now I am Angel Luis Fraticelli the fifth. In my mother's side the immigrants came from England. Then everyone immigrated over here and that is why i am here today.
I think my family tree is very interesting because it combines 3 countries in Europe that are exactly my favorite countries and one day i would like to visit them to see if there is some more family history left in those countries. The fact that my family comes from those different kinds of countries makes me very proud of who I am today.

Racism to an Extreme!!!!

Well I think that the people in Arizona are like kind of stock in the middle. They say that it is that the federal law that states that United States citzens are to be protected from foreign criminals. By calling the immigrants that come to the US criminals, which are mostly mexicans, they are being racist because not all immigrants come to the US for drugs, they come to have a better life. This doesn't affect that much on how I feel about immigration because I really support immigration because people have the right ot live wherever they want. The United States is a place for second chances and this is their only chance to have a second chance. I think that the government should let every immigrant in and have their second chance without any trouble.

James O'Connor Journal

          February 1845:
The potato famine has been the a horrible moment in my life right now. My family has become so poor that we haven't eaten in days because the crops won't grow for nothing and we can't eat the tomatoes. My parents and I have been talking and the only way that we can survive the rest of our lifes only if we escape from Ireland and go to what people call the "land of opportunity" or the United States. We do not want to leave anyone behind so in a few minths we will get enough money to go and we have no other choice.

          May 1845:
Right now we are getting ready to leave to the United States. The whole O'Connor family is here and we are getting ready to leave to the US. In the boat there are many families just like ours that want to have a better life in the US. They all wanted to start over again and have a better life. In the boat the food was very scarce, we could only eat once a day so that everyone in the boat could eat. I have seen 2 people die from starvation and 1 person from some disease that most people got.

          June 1845:
A month has passed since we left Ireland and i have already lost 2 of my family members, my grandmother and sister, to the weird disease that has everyone horrible. It is horrible and I am starving right now because we can only eat like once every 2 days because food has now dropped down a lot and more people have died from starvation. We are very close to the US i can just feel it, we only have to survive a couple more weeks. This trip has actually been endless, the minutes seem like hours and hours seem like days.

          July 1845:
We have finally arrived to the United States!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow, I feel so happy right now, we have survived that long endless trip and made it to the US. Now the hard part is going to be starting all over again, getting a jod and have a nice life over here. We now live in a community that everyone is Irish immigrants, which was an advantage for me and my fa,ily because we keeped our culture intact. I got a job as a firemen, a real tuff and hard working job, but it's better than nothing and it pays good. I think this is the start of a new and happy life.

Irish Immigrants

The Irish immigrants came to the United States to leave the potato famine, the drought, and the wars that were happening in Ireland. The potatoes were Ireland's main source of food and people could not eat them because they had some kind of bacteria in them. The drought made it even harder for them to stay in their homeland because no crops could grow so nabody had anything to eat. Irish people had no choice but to leave their homeland and go to what the people called the "land of opportunity," or the United States. Many families were very poor because of the famine and the drought.
The Irish were very poor people in their country because of wars, the potato famine, and a drought that was going on in the country. The immigrants first went to England so it would be much easier to go to the US by boat but some people could not afford it so they found another way from their own homeland to go directly to the US. It was a lot cheaper than going to England and then to the US. Most immigrants went to Canada or New York. On their way here many people died along the way from starvation and disease because it would take months for the immigrants to get here.
Once the Irish were in the United States they were treated very poorly. From 1820-1860 more than 3 million immigrants moved to the US. They lived in small groups, like "Chinatowns" so they would not separate from their culture. Since the Irish people had a stereotype of being big and strong, they were given hard labor jobs like firemen, policemen, and plumbers.
I think that the Irish people had no choice but to leave their home because people were dying from starvation and disease. They left their homes by boat in a long journey to the United States. When the Irish got to the United States they were treated very bad and they were given very poor jobs and hard labor jobs. I feel bad for the people that have traveled this far to be treated this way because they worked really hard to be where they are.

A normal family from Ireland that immigrated over to the United States.

The immigrants all excited when they see the Statue of Liberty.
